Mariepskop (or Marepe) is situated between the Blyde River Canyon and Kruger National Park, and at 1945m is one of the highest peaks in the northern Drakensberg. It forms a junction of three conservation areas, namely the Mariepskop Forest Reserve, Mariepskop State Forest, and the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve. It is named after, chief Maripe Mashile, who used this mountain as a stronghold for his tribe during the Moholoholo war of 1864.

Once on top of the mountain, one of the most breath-taking views you will ever experience is looking over the Lowveld who’s vegetation and wildlife is so contrasting to where you will be standing.
